Day 18: Jason and Matthew

Meet these two handsome, smart guys, Jason and Matthew.  Brothers and Buddies.

I just love how much fun they are having in this picture.  Jason and Matthew are happy boys despite many challenges they face each day.  Matthew was diagnosed with a Mitochondrial disorder when he was 3.5 years old.  It brings about daily challenges with chronic fatigue, failure to thrive, g/i issues, seizures and autism.  He works with many therapists and doctors and despite all of his challenges, he amazes them all by making great strides.  His big brother, Jason is his biggest fan and cheers him along the way despite facing his own challenge of working through an Asberger's diagnosis.

Their mom, Sarah is one of my sister's best friends. I admire the way she constantly stands by her boys, advocates for the best care and love unconditionally.  She said this in a recent email to me, "There's always going to be second guessing, mommy guilt, worry, and anger, they never go away, but don't let them control your heart... let the love control your heart! "  I thought that was so true for everyone no matter what their children's abilities or disabilities.... let the love control your heart!

Today I pray for Jason and Matthew, their parents and all families that face similar challenges.  I pray they continue to make amazing strides and for great health.

  1. That's an adorable pair of brothers! I'm going to have "let the love control your heart" be my guide through today's parenting moments. Thanks for the inspiration, Sarah and Jill.
